Conference Aston repurposes and donates event stage and hotel blankets as part of its environmental responsibility scheme
Blankets and a stage donated to Catholic primary school implementing sustainable business practices
Birmingham’s leading residential events venue, Conference Aston, showed its support for a local school in the city in a continued push to meet sustainability objectives with two useful donations.
SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School in Erdington has been presented with a collection of blankets and a stage from the venue just in time for children's activities such as summer picnics and team building exercises, to get their assembly hall ‘back-to-school’ ready for September.
Conference Aston’s Head Housekeeper, Martyna Szewczuk, was a key component in the donation and is involved with the school’s Parents and Family Association and paved the way for this partnership.
As part of Conference Aston’s ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices and community engagement, the blankets and a stage were surplus items from the hotel rooms and conference centre that were part of a comprehensive replacement program of certain equipment.
Conference Aston places service, community, and environmental responsibility at the forefront of its core values. With this, the venue will continue to repurpose and donate suitable items from its hotel rooms and support SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School and other community organisations when possible.
Samantha Brown, Head of Conference Aston, said: “We were happy to support Martyna by donating to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School. Conference Aston is keen to do all it can with its sustainability efforts and objectives, so this donation aligned perfectly with our initiatives.
“Our journey in sustainability and eco-friendly practices began in 2011 when we became the first academic venue to get certified for our Environmental Management System, and ever since, we have relentlessly tried to uphold ourselves to that standard – it is donations and initiatives like this that help us create an impact in the local community.
“We at Conference Aston value supporting our employees and their causes. As we continue to upgrade, we eagerly look forward to contributing more suitable items to causes that benefit the school and its students."
